Year 4

Welcome to Year 4

Year 4 is a great time for personal growth, developing maturity and independence. Where pupils continue to master their learning and express their interests and hone their talents. We draw upon the richness of our local environment in our curriculum with many vivid topics, such as the Ancient Romans (a hoard of coins was found in Seaton) to plastic pollution (a spill of Lego in the British channel does continue to wash up upon our southern shores). Our curriculum is fun and packed with exciting units that children get to explore in many different ways.

What have we been up to?

Dragon Days Musical

The Year 3 and 4 children put on three incredible shows performing 'Dragon Days'. The children worked so hard learning all the songs and their lines! They have all grown in confidence throughout the rehearsals and live shows and many children pushed themselves out of their comfort zones!

Year 4 Family Involvement Morning: Sewing

Year 4 had an excellent morning when their family members came in to help them create tote bags from t-shirts! The children were able to showcase their sewing skills from D&T lessons and recycle and reuse an old item as part of their plastic pollution unit. The tote bags look great, and the children can't wait to put them to use!

Art: Printing

We had a fantastic Art day creating designs inspired by our Geography Fieldwork Beach Clean using plastic that we collected at the beach.

Thank you to local company 'Tideline Prints' for coming in to teach us all the different printing techniques that we used to create such amazing designs.

We will now be using our T-Shirts to create sustainable Tote Bags as part of our Design Technology sequence of learning.

Geography Fieldwork Investigation

Year 4 went down to the beach to investigate as part of their current Geography topic: Why do oceans matter? -  Save our seas!

We carried out a Beach Clean on Seaton Beach to collect as much litter as we could find to help us understand the most common types of litter, where that may have come from, the impact it will have on our local environment and what we can do to reduce the amount of litter on our beach in the future.

We will upload our findings soon!

Excitingly, we will also be recycling some of the plastic that we found to use a part of our current art unit.

Mrs Bowskill - A local artist is coming into school to run a printing workshop using the plastic we found on the beach.
