Reception's trip to the church

Reception children visited St Gregory's church in December to learn from Revd Justin Montague. He told us how Christians in St Gregory's church (and others across the world) prepare for and celebrate Christmas, including what the Tree of Light was for, and when each of the candles are lit in the lead up to Christmas Day. We found out that the candles represent hope, peace, joy and love, with the fifth candle (the Jesus candle) being lit at midnight on Christmas Eve to signify the birth of Jesus. We were lucky enough to also be shown the Nativity scene, which is put out in the correct order throughout December to show the events leading up to, and after, Jesus' birth. We really enjoyed learning about how Christians celebrate Christmas and how this might differ from our own traditions. Thank you, St Gregory's church and Rev Justin!
