Year 1 Newsletter 9th June
We have had a busy week back at school after our lovely break. The children have returned eager to learn and very excited about our new topic “Oh we do like to be beside the seaside.” This week we started learning a new nautical song which we hope to perform to you towards the end of term. We will inform you of the date nearer the time.
Literacy – Next week we will be creating acrostic sea creature poetry. The children will use the laptops to research their favourite sea creatures. We will be focussing on using adjectives and verbs in our writing.
Maths – We will be focussing on addition and using our knowledge of number bonds to help us solve larger number problems.
At home – A few ideas for you to try at home this week:
- Continue to practise counting in 2s, 5s and 10s.
- Play quick recall number bonds to 10. You say a number e.g. 7. Your child replies with the correct number bond to make 10: 3. Maybe try to 20!
We still need shoe boxes for an upcoming art project! If you have any spare please bring them in.
Now the weather is getting warmer, please ensure your child brings a sunhat to school and apply sun cream on sunny days. All children need a bottle of water every day.
We would appreciate it if over the weekend you could practise phonics at home with your child. You can find all the sounds that the children should know in the middle of their reading record book. Thank you for your continued support.
Have a wonderful weekend.
