Year 1 Newsletter 7th January
Welcome back! We hope you have enjoyed the Christmas break and we wish you a happy and healthy new year. Mrs Bennett has enjoyed her week getting to know all the children. This week the children have been working hard in maths using 100 squares to help them work with larger numbers. In literacy the children shared and wrote their holiday news and we introduced the book “Where the Wild Things Are.”
Please ensure your child has their PE kit in school each day. As the weather is colder, you can include tracksuit bottoms in your child’s PE kit. A spare pair of socks would also be useful for girls with tights.
Parent Involvement – We will be having a parent involvement morning on Friday 22nd January. The children will be creating a boat for exploring. We will send out a letter and slip shortly. Please complete and return, even if you are not able to attend.
Literacy – Next week we will be venturing up to the woods to recreate our own “Wild Thing” adventures to help us write stories during the week. Please ensure your child has their wellies in school next week.
Maths – We will be recapping our number bonds, with a focus on 6, 8, 9 and 10. We have got some fun challenges planned for the children to try!
At home – A few ideas for you to try at home this week:
- Children may like to use the “Splat square” to splat numbers to 100 and talk about 1 more/1 less. Here’s the link: http://www.primarygames.co.uk/pg2/splat/splatsq100.html
- Think about explorers with your child and if they were an explorer where they’d most like to go?
This week we have been looking at maps of the world. If you know anyone who lives outside the UK, please bring in any photos or information for us to share and create classroom displays.
Have a relaxing weekend!
