Year 1 Newsletter 5th November
Year 1 have had a busy week learning to tell the time in maths. The children made their own clocks and ordered daily routines. In literacy we have learnt facts about castles for our new topic. Please check the Year 1 website page where you can view the latest curriculum map and see what we will be doing for the next half term.
Literacy – Next week is our whole school “Take a Tale” week with a focus on Jack and the Beanstalk. Year 1 will be exploring the text “Jack and the jelly bean stalk” and writing alliterative descriptions of fantasy worlds.
Maths – We will be counting in multiples of 2, 5 and 10. We will use lots of different playful resources such as groups of magic beans and hundred squares to help us see the patterns.
At home – A few ideas for you to try at home this week:
- Talk about daily routines with your child and what time these take place during the day. Look at analogue clocks together.
- Talk about castles with your child – can they tell you any interesting facts that they’ve learnt this week?
Tomorrow is our parent involvement morning! We look forward to welcoming you and hope you enjoy making super vehicles with the children. Please bring as much junk modelling and other materials as you can.
It is also non-uniform day tomorrow in exchange for chocolate tombola donations.
See you tomorrow!
