Year 1 Newsletter 5th May
We have been enjoying the wonderful weather this week. We took a trip to the woods to gather natural resources for a nature collage we will begin next week. If possible, it would be great if you could take advantage of the lovely weather this weekend and collect any natural objects we could add to our collage (not from the beach!) e.g. leaves, feathers, twigs. We have encouraged the children not to pick flowers or leaves.
Literacy – Next week we will be sharing the book “Eddie’s Garden.” The children will be designing their own gardens and choosing what they would grow in them.
Maths – We will be focussing on addition and subtraction. We will continue to learn our number bonds to 20 and will explore the correlation between addition and subtraction.
At home – A few ideas for you to try at home this week:
- Encourage your child to count to 100 – and beyond! Focus on the pronunciation of different numbers i.e. fourteen vs forty
- Look for natural resources for our nature collage
Now the weather is getting warmer, please ensure your child brings a sunhat to school and apply sun cream on sunny days. All children need a bottle of water every day.
CHANGE TO SWIMMING TIMES: Mrs Burkill’s class will now be swimming on a Monday and Mrs Bennett’s class will remain swimming on a Tuesday. Please check parentmail for swimming pool updates to find out if we will be swimming next week.
Have a lovely weekend.
