Year 1 Newsletter 4th February

4 February 2016Year 1

Dear Parents,

We have had an amazing morning working with several artists from “Creativity on the Coast.” The children tried lots of exciting activities including the Japanese technique gyotaku – which means printing with fish! The children used real fish to print onto t-shirts which made wonderful effects. These will be sent home tomorrow. Please check our Year 1 blog shortly for photos.

Literacy – Next week we will be writing instructions to make pancakes. Children will be eating these on Tuesday so please let us know if your child has any allergies. We will also be learning about Brazil as part of multi-cultural week.

Maths – We will be focussing on sequencing and place value. We will be mainly talking about tens and units or 1s and understanding what they mean in two digit numbers.

At home – A few ideas for you to try at home this week:

  • Practise counting in 2s, 5s and 10s.
  • You may like to play a literacy or maths game (please find links on the school website).
  • In the middle of your child’s reading record book you can find lots of helpful information to support your child’s reading.

Please bring in library books on a Tuesday so that they can be changed.

Thank you for your continued support in encouraging independence in the mornings. Have a wonderful weekend,

Mrs Bennett and Mrs Burkill
