Year 1 Newsletter 3rd March 2016
This week the children made a great attempt to build their own paper rockets. Then they wrote instructions about how to do this. Even the teachers found it tricky, so well done! We all enjoyed watching year 3 and 4 go into battle on the playground as part of their Roman day.
Literacy – Next week we will be using our imaginations to write about a space adventure. We will be sharing fiction and non-fiction space books to give us some ideas. We will think about how to structure a story and the important things to include in our writing such as capital letters, full stops and finger spaces. Children will be encouraged to use adjectives and verbs to write their own space adventure stories.
Maths – We will be adding and subtracting in 10s. Children will also be practising counting in 2s, 5s and 10s. They will have lots of fun, practical activities to help them.
At home – A few ideas for you to try at home this week:
- You may like to play some phonics games with your child online. There are lots of free to access games on phonics play or ICT games.
- One clear night (!) you might like to go star spotting with your child. How many stars can they count?
Parents evening sign-up sheets will be outside classrooms from Monday 7th March. Please come in to sign up for a slot.
Have a lovely weekend,
Mrs Bennett and Mrs Burkill
