Year 1 Newsletter 25th February

25 February 2016Year 1

Dear Parents,

We hope you enjoyed the half term break. The children have returned to school excited to learn about our new topic on space. We had a very busy afternoon on Wednesday, using junk modelling to design and create space rockets.

Literacy – Next week we will be focussing on verbs and instructions. The children will make a simple rocket and then we will write instructions. We will also think about verbs and how to use them in our writing.

Maths – We will be focussing on capacity and data. The children will explore the capacity of different containers in lots of fun, practical activities. We will also be using tally charts and pictograms to record data as a class.

At home – A few ideas for you to try at home this week:

  • Practise number formation. It is important that children are beginning to practise writing their numbers correctly. We are focussing on this at the moment, but would really appreciate your support too.
  • If you cook with your child this weekend think about how to follow instructions and share these with your child.

Please bring in library books on a Tuesday so that they can be changed.

Have a relaxing weekend,

Mrs Bennett and Mrs Burkill
