Year 1 Newsletter – 24.09.15

Dear Parents,

We have had a busy week using money in lots of practical ways. The children had the chance to “buy” their afternoon snack and use our Year 1 shop. We have enjoyed making story maps about Superheroes and will be writing short stories tomorrow. The children were keen to learn about different animals and thinking about which animal they’d pick for their super side kick and why!

Literacy – Next week we will be learning a new Superhero story about vegetables! The children will be retelling the story with actions and role playing different scenes in preparation for writing a whole class story together.

Maths – We will be measuring and comparing the sizes of lots of different things at school. Children will use standard and non-standard units to investigate different measures.

At home – A few ideas for you to try at home this week:

  • Measure different things around the house using a tape measure/ruler or other objects e.g. pencils to measure along the table or toy cars to measure the mat.
  • Talk about vegetables and super foods! Visit the local shop to look at the different vegetables on offer. Maybe you could even try a new vegetable?

General Reminders –

  • Please ensure your child has their PE kit in school each day (shorts, T-shirt & plimsolls/trainers). We do not have enough spare kit at school.

Have a relaxing weekend!
