Year 1 Newsletter 19th November

19 November 2015Year 1

Dear Parents,

Year 1 have had yet another busy week learning about dragons, multiplication and division, as well as lots of singing practise for our Christmas Production. They have also enjoyed helping create and playing in our role play castle. Next week our learning will follow a similar theme.

Literacy – We will continue looking at different types of dragons and thinking of good descriptive vocabulary and exciting word combinations, using the story map to help us.

Maths – We will be introducing the children to fractions this week, starting with halves and then moving on to quarters (including the symbols ½ and ¼). We will be making links between fractions and the sharing we’ve been doing this week.

Topic – Next week we will be learning about what our homes are like. We would like the children to bring in a photograph of the front of their home so that they can use it for topic work. The photo will be stuck into their topic books so please make sure it is not one you would like back! We will also be taking a walk around Seaton on Wednesday afternoon (25th November) and need two parents to help us out. If you can help please let us know.

At home – A few ideas for you to try at home this week:

  • Maybe the children could make a Christmas list? A particular focus at the moment is the correct letter formation and careful handwriting.
  • Talk about some of the dragons we have learnt about at school. Can they make up their own dragon?

 Important Notice –

  • All of the children in Year 1 should have taken home a brown envelope today containing a letter for you. The letter explains that in January there will be some staffing rearrangements taking place which will affect the children in Miss Mabin’s class. If your child has not received this letter then please let us know. Miss Mabin will be available to answer questions about this at parents evening.

A personal message from Miss Mabin;

“It has been a pleasure getting to know all of your children since September, and I am lucky enough to still have some time left with them yet. However, as I have explained to the children today, I will be moving to Reception to take over from Miss Sealy in January. I know that the children will continue to have a fantastic time in Year 1 with Mrs Bennett and Miss Gregory. They are a lovely class and Mrs Bennett is a lucky teacher!”

We hope you enjoy your long weekend!
