Year 1 Newsletter 14th January
We have had a fun week exploring in the woods and writing our adventure stories. The children explored places all over the world – including deserts and jungles!
Parent Involvement – We will be having a parent involvement morning on Friday 22nd January. The children will be creating a boat for exploring. Today we have sent a letter and reply slip out. Please complete and return, even if you are not able to attend by Monday 18th January.
Literacy – Next week we will be using a great non-fiction book called “What Do You Do With a Tail Like This?” The children will learn interesting facts about many wild animals. We will be focussing on verbs (doing words).
Maths – We will be looking at coins and their values. We will be using them to add and find different amounts. The children will role play using a shop and till and work out how to pay for different items.
At home – A few ideas for you to try at home this week:
- You may like to play this game at home to practise number bonds. Here’s the link: http://www.ictgames.com/save_the_whale_v4.html
- Take time to read with your child at home.
Please remember to read regularly with your child at home. We have noticed that since returning from the Christmas break some children are only reading once a week or not at all. Please ensure that you record each time you read with your child in their reading record book. We really value your support in this.
As a reminder, if you have friends or family who live outside the UK, please bring in any photos or information for us to share and create classroom displays.
Have a lovely weekend!
