Year 1 Newsletter 14th April

14 April 2016Year 1

Dear Parents,

We have had a busy week back at school with the children bright and ready to learn. It was lovely to hear all their news from the Easter break. The children have particularly enjoyed writing letters to local garden centres requesting some seeds and plants for our topic work. Fingers crossed we hear back from them!

Our Topic This Half Term – Our topic focus this half term will be plants, living and growing, seasons and the weather. We hope to spend lots of time outdoors exploring our natural surroundings.

Literacy – Next week we will be focussing on shape poems. We will share poetry together as a class and write our own poems.

Maths – We will be learning about halves and quarters. We will be focussing on finding the half and quarter of shapes and amounts.

At home – A few ideas for you to try at home this week:

  • Talk about halves, quarters and sharing. If you eat any food this week that can be halved or quartered discuss this with your child.
  • Explore the outdoors with your child and look for the signs of Spring.

We hope to be swimming on Tuesday so please remember to send your child in with their swimming kit.

Have a relaxing weekend.

Mrs Burkill
