Year 1 Newsletter 12th November

12 November 2015Year 1

Dear Parents,

The children have had a fun-filled week of Jack and the Beanstalk activities, including a magic bean hunt, pin the tail on the cow and design a magic egg. Tomorrow, we will finish off the week by dressing as characters or objects from the story, combined with Children in Need. We have also begun our rehearsals for the Nativity play. Letters will be sent out shortly to inform you of your child’s role and costume.

Literacy – Next week we will be learning a new story which is a surprise for the children. They will make predictions, learn part of the text and begin to use similar descriptive language and phrases in their own writing.

Maths – We will be introducing the concept of multiplication and division. Children will be multiplying and sharing small numbers by 2 with lots of fun challenges for them to try!

At home – A few ideas for you to try at home this week:

  • Children may like to use the “Splat square” to splat multiples of 2, 5 and 10. Here’s the link: http://www.primarygames.co.uk/pg2/splat/splatsq100.html
  • Think up some funny alliterative descriptions with your child. For example, “I climbed to the top of the beanstalk and I found…a barmy badger, a green goat and a stinky sock” etc! If you have any particularly funny examples please send them in with your child to share with the class.

Have a relaxing weekend!
