Year 1 Newsletter 12th May

12 May 2016Year 1

Dear Parents,

Thank you to the parents who brought in natural resources for our nature collage. The children had great fun creating this. The collage is on display outside Mrs Bennett’s classroom if you would like to come in and look at it. Today we had a special visitor from the Met Office – Alex the weatherman aka Mr Burkill! As part of his role as a STEMNET ambassador he visited the children and talked about his role and how the weather is forecast. The children were excited to take part in some of his experiments including making a tornado and a cloud! Please check our Year 1 blog for some photos.

Literacy – Next week we will be comparing two versions of Jack and the Beanstalk. We will be retelling a version of the story on our very own beanstalks.

Maths – We will be focussing on multiplication. Children will begin to think about multiplication as groups of or sets of, with lots of practical activities to support this.

At home – A few ideas for you to try at home this week:

  • Practise counting in 2s, 5s and 10s.
  • Go cloud spotting and see if you can spot any fun shapes!

Now the weather is getting warmer, please ensure your child brings a sunhat to school and apply sun cream on sunny days. All children need a bottle of water every day.

As a reminder – all children must have a swimming cap. These are available to purchase from the school office. Also, please clearly label all of your child’s clothing and shoes.

Have a wonderful weekend.

Mrs Burkill and Mrs Bennett
