Year 1 Newsletter 11th February

11 February 2016Year 1

Dear Parents,

We have had a busy week. The children particularly enjoyed the dance festival at Axe Valley. We will post some photos on our Year 1 blog soon.

Our Topic next half term – We will be focussing on space. Please see our curriculum map on the website for more information and keep reading our weekly newsletters for details.

Literacy – After the holidays we will be blasting off to space! Children will find out lots of information about space and how it would feel to go there. We will pack our bags to go and send postcards.

Maths – We will be focussing on measuring height and length and finding the difference between measurements. We will use non-standard units (e.g. cubes) and also introduce standard units (e.g. cm).

At home – A few ideas for you to try at home this week:

  • Visit the local library to look at and borrow some books about space. These could be fiction or non-fiction texts. The library has lots of fun activities to take part in over the half term break.
  • Practise counting in 10s. You can use a 100 square on google to help you. Or you might even like to make your own!

Please bring in library books on a Tuesday so that they can be changed.

Thank you for your continued support this half term. The children are making excellent progress. Have a happy half term break!
