Alex the Weatherman Visit

12 May 2016Year 1

Today we had a very special visitor in Year 1 – Alex the weatherman from the Met Office. As part of his role as a STEMNET ambassador, Alex came in the talk to the children about the weather and weather forecasting. We ventured outside to use a laser thermometer and also an anemometer to measure the wind speed. We were lucky enough to take part in some of Alex’s experiments including marshmallows in a jar (to explain air and wind), making clouds and also a tornado!

The children had lots of questions about the weather and seasons which Alex was able to answer. Unfortunately he didn’t know for sure if there is a pot of gold at the end of a rainbow! To finish off his visit he presented a special weather forecast for the children in Mrs Bennett’s class! A big thank you to Alex for a fun morning.
