Year 4 Saxon day at Escot

On Tuesday 11th January, to kick start our Anglo Saxon topic in style, Year 4 enjoyed a brilliant day at Escot. We spent time in the small Saxon settlement of Edcott, welcomed by Edgar, son of Edgar. We were given a guided tour and were able to work at the bakery, grinding spelt and making bread. We also worked in the smithy creating brooches and with the carpenter turning a mallet and carving runes. In Anglo Saxon fashion, we foraged for food around Escot and observed the animals. It was a brilliant day, even the shy and retiring lynxes and the British wildcat put in an appearance.
