Reception Newsletter 9th February
Dear Parents and Carers,
We have had a fantastic week learning about our senses and tasting lots of lovely food from different countries. Yesterday we tried stir-fried noodles and egg-fried rice from China and today we made Mexican fajitas! A huge thanks to Tesco for donating all our fajita ingredients – the children really enjoyed them!
This week we read learnt more about our senses. We went on a senses walk and recorded what we could see, hear, smell and touch. We have also had lots of class discussions around our senses, talking about our favourite tastes and smells. After half term, we will begin our Superhero Topic and our Literacy during the first week will focus on the story ‘Supertato.’ We will learn how to retell it using a story map and hopefully be able to show you this at home! We will also create our own story maps to help us write.
This week we have introduced the children to coins and their values. We enjoyed setting up a shop and the children have practised using coins to buy some toys and food. After half term we will start learning about number bonds to 10 (pairs of numbers that make 10) and find out about these using a variety of resources and songs.
Seaton Celebrates World Book Day
On Tuesday 21st February, Seaton will celebrate World Book Day. Children are encouraged to dress up as their favourite book character for the day. They will also be given a book token to take home to put towards or exchange for a reading book. We are looking forward to seeing what everyone turns up as!
Parent Involvement Morning
Next half term, we will hold another Parent Involvement morning. This will be on Friday 31st March. As we are learning about superheroes, we invite parents and carers to join us in dressing up as a superhero (real or made up) along with your child. We will hold a morning of different superhero ‘challenges’, where you can work with your child and as part of a team to complete different, fun activities. We really hope you can join us for the morning, from 9am – 11:30am. We know the children will want you there and that we will have a fantastic time!
Things to try at home over half term:
- Plan a trip to the shop so that your child can pay for something small using coins.
- Discuss your child’s favourite books and who they might like to dress up as for book day.
- Find a new recipe to cook and taste with your child, perhaps from another country!
Dates for the diary:
Tuesday 21st February – Dressing up for World Book Day
Monday 20th and Tuesday 21st March – Reception Parent Evenings
Thursday 30th March – Reception & Key Stage 1 Parent Easter Assembly, 9:15 –10:30am
