Reception Newsletter 8th December

8 December 2016Latest News Parent Year R

Dear Parents and Carers,

We have had a wonderful week, making a start on our Christmas activities and crafts. All the children had a fantastic time during our pantomime trip and we were very proud of their excellent behaviour and attitude.

Phonics

This week we have learnt the sounds ai, ee and igh. Next week we will be recapping on all the sounds that we have learnt this term, with lots of practice on reading and writing simple words.

Reading Books

Next week we will be collecting in reading books so that our systems can be checked and updated. Please remember to keep reading other texts over the Christmas period – your local library has books to borrow for free!

Nativity

We are very excited for our Nativity performances next week. Children need to be dropped to their classrooms between 5:30-5:45pm on both Monday and Tuesday evenings. Please remember that we have carefully planned dances and songs that each child is a part of and the show relies on their attendance. We understand that children will be tired and will be very considerate of this during their last week before the holidays.

Christmas Party

Our Reception party will be held on Wednesday afternoon next week. Children may bring party clothes to change into for the afternoon. We will have lots of fun games and festive music, as well as some party food. If you would like to bring in a small portion of party food to share, please write your child’s name on the sign-up sheets outside classrooms tomorrow.

Reminders

Tuesday 13th December is Christmas jumper/festive accessories dress up day.

Things to try at home this week:

  • Make some playdough with your child. You can find a simple recipe here. You might even like to add glitter or Christmas scents!
  • Talk with your child about why Christmas is important to your family. Discuss your family traditions and favourite parts of the holiday.

Have a relaxing weekend!
