Reception Newsletter 7th November 2019

7 November 2019Latest News Parent Year R

Dear Parents,

We have had a wonderful week celebrating and recreating the recent local fireworks displays that some of us have watched. We used glue and glitter to create our own wonderful pictures and the children have had lots of fun in the provision with firework themed activities.

Reading Books

Please ensure that your child has their reading books and Guided Reading Record book in school every day. We aim to read with the children as much as possible during the week, but sometimes do not know which day this will be. Don’t forget to write in your child’s reading record book when you have read with your child. We are noticing that some children’s reading record books are not filled in. We ask that you read your child’s school books with them at least 3 times a week. Thank you.

Parents Evenings
Parent evening comment slips will be in your child’s bags tomorrow for you to fill in. Please comment on how you feel your child has settled in, and what is going well. These can be handed back to class teachers. Thank you.

Phonics

This week we have introduced the Phase 3 sounds w, z, j, v and the tricky words ‘me’ and ‘we’. Next week, we will be introducing the sounds x, y, qu and sh, as well as the tricky words ‘my’ and ‘he’.

Maths

This week in Maths we have been comparing objects and showing our understanding of ‘fewer’, ‘more’ and ‘less’ using a variety of resources. Next week we will focus on ‘more than’ and revisit the 5 frames to secure our understanding of 1 more.

Literacy

This week we have been creating whole class firework pictures and adding labels or sentences to them. They are going to be up on display around our classrooms. Next week in Literacy, we will continue with our ‘Celebration’ theme and be writing party lists for a party. We will celebrate Children in Need fundraising by having a small pyjama party on Friday.

Things to try at home this week

  • Ask your child about the phonics sounds introduced this week. Can you think of any words starting with j, w, z or v? Is there anything in your house with these letters in?
  • Make some number cards with your child (to 5, 10 or 20). Play pairs or snap. You could play ‘Guess My Number’ and give clues such as “It is one more than 4”.
