Reception Newsletter 7th March 2019
The children have enjoyed learning and retelling the story ‘Supertato’ with the help of a story map this week. They have all been busy role playing as superheroes, and there has been lots of acting as their World Book Day characters today too.
This week we have begun to learn the story of ‘Supertato’ using a story map to help us. Next week we will continue with this focus and the children will be attempting to write their favourite parts from the story.
The children have explored subtraction number sentences this week. They have used a variety of resources to work out the answers and prove whether the teachers had written the correct number facts. Next week we will be focusing on repeating patterns of 2, 3 and 4 objects/colours. The children will have lots of fun, practical activities to develop their understanding.
We have focused on spelling the tricky words ‘was’ and ‘are’ this week. We have been carefully sounding out some longer words, playing bingo and hunting for pictures to help us. Next week we will be returning to a focus on digraphs within words e.g. snail, book, coin, farm etc.
Things you could try at home this week:
• Create your own word/sound cards with your child to play pairs or snap. Suggested words could be the tricky words we shared with you during parents meetings or words with digraphs such as: fork, curl, boat, paint, coil, crown, mixer.
• Play some of the online games from the handout we shared with you during parents meetings.
Have a wonderful weekend!
