Reception Newsletter 7th December
This week many of us have been kept busy taking part in the writing competition. The children were asked to describe an unusual picture made up of different food items (e.g. a cracker wheelbarrow). We then scribed what the children had said. Two winners from each class will be chosen and announced on Monday.
Buddy Twinkle-Toes the elf has arrived in our classrooms! He has been up to all sorts of mischief. Have a look on our website later to see photos of what he’s been doing!
This week we have learnt the sounds ‘ng’ (in sing) ‘ai’ (in sail) and ‘ee’ (in sheep) and the tricky words ‘all’ and ‘we’. Next week’s Phonics lessons will focus on consolidating the recent digraphs.
Thank you to those who have returned their parent involvement reply slips. Please make sure these are returned as soon as possible. If you need another slip, please let us know. We look forward to next Thursday morning!
The children have been working so hard in our Nativity practices and they cannot wait to perform for you next week. For information on evening performance arrangements, please check your parentmail.
Upcoming dates to remember:
Monday 11th December – Nativity performance 2pm and 6pm
Tuesday 12th December – Nativity performances 9:30am and 6pm
Thursday 14th December – Parent Involvement (9am – 11am)
Friday 15th December – Break up from school for Christmas at 1pm
Wednesday 3rd January – Children return to school
Things to try at home this week
- Practise reading our sounds, digraphs and tricky words that we have learnt so far. Have a look in the middle of your child’s reading record if you are unsure.
- Discuss why & how some people may celebrate Christmas around the world. Does your family celebrate Christmas?
Have a relaxing weekend!
