Reception Newsletter 5th May
Dear Parents and Carers,
We have had a fantastic week continuing our countdown to hatching day! The children have spent time consolidating their understanding of life cycles and representing this using lots of fun items, such as pasta shapes, and in role play. We have been enjoying lots of outdoor learning in the sunshine, but please remember to provide a coat as it is still a little chilly and we do not have enough spares.
This week in Literacy the children have worked very hard to write some facts about frogs and butterflies. We were really impressed once again with their efforts and at how many children are able to write independently now. We look forward to combining these facts into class books!
Next week in Literacy we will be telling the story of ‘The Gruffalo’ and writing some descriptive sentences about the terrifying beast! We will enjoy a little bit of role play and dressing up in the woods.
In Maths this week we have focused on addition. The children have all had a go at writing number sentences and showing us what the numbers represent when written down. Next week in maths we will be learning about doubles and sharing out objects fairly.
Things to try at home this week
- Play some addition games on a computer, tablet or with practical objects. Check the ‘Children’s zone’ on our website for recommended links.
- Talk with your child about the life cycle of frogs or butterflies. Maybe you could try spotting signs of these in your local area.
Have a lovely weekend.
