Reception Newsletter 5th January
Dear Parents and Carers,
Happy New Year and welcome back to a new term! We are very excited about the year to come and have lots of fun and active learning planned for the next half term. We will be learning about different countries around the world, the food, cultures and traditions they have. We will also be continuing with our Phonics, Maths and Literacy work. Here is what we will be up to next week.
This week in Phonics we have recapped all of our learning so far. The children have returned eager and we are very impressed with their recall. Next week we will be focusing on the sounds ‘oa’, ‘or’, long ‘oo’ (moon, food), short ‘oo’ (book, look) and ‘ar’.
In Maths we will be learning about ordinal numbers (e.g. 1st, 2nd, 3rd etc) and arranging lots of races and activities to practise our use of these in real contexts. We will also be counting sounds and actions and recognising numbers.
In Literacy we will be looking at the country Italy and finding out about some of their traditions. We will be designing our own weird and wonderful pizzas and labelling our creations. Some of us might even write a sentence!
- Library books will go out again next week. Mrs Burkill’s class have library on Monday, Miss Mabin’s class have library on Tuesday.
- Please ensure your child has a PE kit in school in a clearly named bag. We will be using them on Friday. They only need PE shorts (black or red) and a t-shirt (white or red).
- Please don’t forget to put names on your child’s belongings, including snacks, water bottles, new clothes, coats, etc.
- Reading books have been returned to your child this week. Please make sure that when you have read you write in their reading record book. It helps us to know when books might need changing. Thank you.
Have a lovely weekend!
Miss Mabin and Mrs Burkill
