Reception Newsletter 3rd October 2019

3 October 2019Latest News Parent Year R

Dear Parents,

What a rainy week we have had! Luckily we still managed to have a lot of time outdoors and fit our woods visit in on Wednesday afternoon. The children also had a rainy run on the daily mile track, which they embraced. With the change in season well underway, please ensure that your child has a coat in school every day, as even on the sunnier days it is beginning to get chilly.

This week we have learnt the letters and sounds for c, k, ck (digraph), e and tomorrow u. We also introduced the tricky words ‘to’ and ‘no’, as well as revised our previous sounds and the tricky word I. Next week we will be learning the sounds rhb and f, as well as they tricky words go and the.

This week we have continued to explore making 5, using the 5 frames and counting objects. We have ensured that the children did this in a fun way, and they were really getting the idea of a full frame meaning 5 objects without counting.

Next week in Maths, we will be exploring how we can sort objects into different groups in a variety of ways. We will sort children in the class, as well as objects in a number of ways, as well as begin to spot the odd one out and explain why.

Next week in literacy we will try to label some CVC pictures (with support from adults!) using the sounds we have learnt so far.

Local Area Walk and Trip to Park

On Friday the 18th October, we will be going on a walk to the Jurassic Park (near to Tesco), looking at our local features on the way (e.g. church, fire station, hospital, football club and wetlands). We are looking for volunteers to help us walk the children there, spend the morning with us and walk them back to school. If you can help for this morning, please speak to your class teacher.

Things to try at home

  • Try collecting leaves to bring in to school. We will be creating leaf art using leaves to make pictures of animals such as hedgehogs, lions or owls.
  • Take a look at our Harvest Home Learning sheet (will be in bags tomorrow), because next week we will join in Harvest singing for assembly.
