Reception Newsletter 31st October 2019

31 October 2019Latest News Parent Year R

Dear Parents,

Welcome back! We have had a very excitable week with Halloween happening today for many children. Sadly, the weather hasn’t been great but it hasn’t bothered the children and they have been very keen to get outside regardless.

Bikeability Balance

After a week of Balance Bike training, now is an ideal opportunity to remove stabilisers from your child’s bike! Many children may find they can now ride a pedal bike unaided. If they need more time, removing the pedals will allow your child to develop their balance on two wheels. Stabilisers may now hinder your child’s progress, as they have been getting used to balancing and not relying on them all week.

Reading Books

Please ensure that your child has their reading books and Guided Reading Record book in school every day. We aim to read with the children as much as possible during the week, but sometimes do not know which day this will be. Thank you.

Parents Evenings
Thank you all for attending Parents Evenings this week. It was great to see you and be able to feed back to you on your child’s progress so far. We will be sending home parent evening comment slips for you to fill in. Please comment on how you feel your child has settled in, and what is going well. These can be handed back to class teachers. Thank you.

This week we have been reminding ourselves of all of our Phase 2 sounds, and have been practising reading and writing with these sounds. Next week we will be introducing Phase 3 sounds w, z, j, v and the tricky words ‘me’ and ‘we’.

Next week in Maths we will be comparing objects and showing our understanding of ‘fewer’, ‘more’ and ‘less’ using a variety of resources.

This week in Literacy we all created our own potions and had a go at labelling the ingredients too. Next week we will be creating whole class firework pictures and adding labels or sentences to them.

Things to try at home this week

  • Take a look at the Imagination Tree website for lots of art and craft ideas for home.
  • Get out on your child’s bike or scooter to practise some of the skills learnt this week.
