Reception Newsletter 2nd February

2 February 2017Latest News Parent Year R

Dear Parents and Carers,

We have had an exciting week learning about Mexico and practising our Spanish phrases. We were also invited to watch a very special balloon launch into space, and some of us were even featured on the local news! On top of that, we have been practising our Sign2Sing song ‘Together’ in preparation for our fund-raising assembly on Thursday.

This week we read the book ‘Off we go to Mexico’ and had lots of fun imagining some exciting things we’d like to see or visit in Mexico. We wrote our own sentences and some of us managed to use some fantastic descriptive words, such as ‘delicate’ and ‘sparkly’. Next week, our Literacy will focus more on recording and labelling, as we carry out a senses walk around the school.

This week we have really enjoyed learning about repeating patterns and symmetry. We have been practising creating our own patterns using the peg boards, and painting symmetrical butterflies, just like those in our Mexico book! Next week we will introduce the children to coins and their values. We will set up a shop so that the children can apply their understanding to buy some toys and food.

Park Trip

We are so proud of the children for gathering rewards in our whole class reward jars and have decided they deserve a treat for all of their hard work. We will be taking them to the park near to Tesco on Friday 10th February. As this is a local visit, we already have your permission; however we would need some volunteers to come with us for the morning. If you can spare the time, please let us know.

Seaton Celebrates World Book Day!

On Tuesday 21st February, Seaton will celebrate World Book Day. Children are encouraged to dress up as their favourite book character for the day. They will also be given a book token to take home to put towards or exchange for a reading book. We are looking forward to seeing what everyone turns up as!

Things to try at home this week:

  • Look for repeating patterns and symmetry with your child around your home and when you are out. Can your child tell you what the pattern is?
  • Discuss your child’s favourite books and who they might like to dress up as for book day. Together, make a list of things you may need for their costume.
  • Practise the Sign2Sing song. You can find it here.

Have a great weekend!
