Reception Newsletter 28th March 2019

Dear Parents,

The children have had a fun-filled week in the sunshine and we also enjoyed our first coach trip out to Axe Valley Academy. The children were extremely polite and well behaved on our PE trip, and listened well to the wonderful Year 8 children who led the activities. Hopefully they came home and told you what their favourite parachute or skipping activity was that day.

Parent Involvement

Don’t forget, next Friday 5th April is our Superhero Parent Involvement morning. We have sent reply slips home which are due back tomorrow. We really hope that you or another family member/friend can make it, as it’s so important to the children. It is a voluntary dress up day, but we highly recommend coming dressed up as a superhero duo with your child, it’s lots of fun!

This week in Literacy we have been writing down our own ideas for what a superhero does during their day. The children have been very creative so far, but we have been so busy that this writing will continue into next week (which is also another busy week!).

The children have really enjoyed learning how to create block graphs this week! They have been using our group resources to carry out lots of research on super powers, so we have made a new template for them to do research on favourite pets. You might see some of these come home in their bags, so if you do, try asking them which is the most and least popular.

This week we have learnt how to read the tricky words ‘do’ and ‘have’ and practised spelling ‘my’ and ‘have’ as they come up a lot in our writing. We have also continued with our digraph/trigraph spotting, looking for these within words.

Next week we will continue to spot digraphs and practise reading sentences. We will also be learning to read three new tricky words, ‘there’, ‘one’ and ‘were’.

Things you could try at home this week:

  • Take a trip together to look for different types of flowers/blossom and other signs of Spring’s arrival. Talk to your child about how things grow and what they need to help them survive.
  • Discuss Parent Involvement day with your child and perhaps make some accessories together for their costume.
