Dear Parents,

We have had a wonderful week back at school. The children have settled in well and have been very busy this week. Miss Mabin’s class have really impressed Mrs Bennett with their enthusiasm this week. Our new theme for the term is ‘Superheroes’ and the children have been excited with our new role play area hero hideout.

Phonics
This week we have been learning to spell ‘he’ and ‘be’. We have focused on carefully sounding out longer words too. Next week we will begin to learn to write ‘you’ and ‘are’ and will continue to read Phase 4 words, such as ‘frost’, ‘drink’ and ‘twist’.

Literacy
This week we have been creating our own superheroes, labelling their costumes and attempting to write sentences. Next week we will begin to learn the story of ‘Supertato’ using a story map to help us. We will begin to write our favourite parts from the story using our story map to help us.

Maths
We have been using resources to help us solve addition number sentences. Some of these had the wrong answers and the children worked hard to be maths detectives to solve them. Next week we will focus on subtraction, and again use a range of resources to support our learning.

Things you could try at home this week:
• Visit the local library and borrow some superhero stories to share together at home.
• Have a look on this website for some fun creative learning activities https://theimaginationtree.com/

Have a lovely weekend!
Mrs Burkill
