Reception Newsletter 27th June 2019

Dear Parents,

Thank you for all of your wonderful donations to our bottle tombola. The children have had a great time in the sun today – please don’t forget to apply sun cream before school and provide extra to top up at lunchtimes.

Reception Beach/Pirate trip

On Wednesday 3rd July we will be spending the day at the Jurassic Park and the Beach searching for some treasure. Please check your parentmail online to respond to the permission form and order your child some lunch. More information about the trip can be found there, but we are asking for pirate or beach themed clothes and backpacks for lunch, water and snack. Thank you to those who have offered to come along. If you think you can join us on the day, please let us know.

World of Country Life Parentmail Problems

Please complete and submit the Reception Trip Form (the second one) on Parentmail and not Reception Summer Trip. You will need to enter an email in the first emergency box and a phone number in the second. Any problems please contact the office. Apologies for the inconvenience this has caused.

Literacy

This week the children have finished writing their stories about Captain Blackbeard’s rescue. They have worked really hard to produce some longer writing and are really showing a secure understanding of phonics and spelling.

Next week we will be thinking of some rules for being a pirate and writing these down as a list.

Maths

This week in Maths has been all about capacity. The children have learnt what capacity is and guessing which container can hold the most water. We tested out different containers, compared their capacity and put them in order from smallest to largest capacity.

Phonics

In Phonics from now until the end of term, we will be selecting digraphs and tricky words that need practising the most and revisiting these with the children in a variety of ways. Reading lots at home will continue to support your child’s phonics progress.

Things you could try at home:

  • Try some of the activities on our ‘Pirates Home Learning Challenge’ sheet.
  • Hide some ‘treasure’ in your house, garden or somewhere local. Make a map with your child that shows them how to find it.
  • Enjoy the sunshine out at the beach, marshes or local parks.
