Reception Newsletter 26th September 2019
Dear Parents,
We have had a busy week at school and the children have been keen to take part in our Literacy activity – to draw a picture of the people that are special to them. Some children have even attempted to add some initial sounds to label the people in their picture!
Phonics
Thank you to those of you that attended our Phonics meetings today and Tuesday. We had an excellent turnout and hope they were useful to you. We will send a separate parentmail with links to our phonics actions and the pronunciation video so that you can carry on the children’s learning at home. If you need any reading advice in the future, please don’t hesitate to ask.
This week we have learnt the letters and sounds for n, m, d, g and o, as well as revised our previous sounds and the tricky word I. Next week we will be learning the sounds c, k, ck, e and u, as well as they tricky words no and to.
Family Photos
Our family photos are beginning to fill up our Topic boards. Please don’t forget to provide one so that your child can spot their family on the wall!
Maths
Next week, we will continue to use our ‘five frame’, and drawing children’s attention to different ways of making 5, such as 2 and 3, or 4 and 1.
Things to try at home
- Visit the Phonics Play website and play some Phase 1 or 2 games. If you don’t have a computer, make up a game of sound pairs or try hiding them around the house.
- Go on an Autumn walk and collect lots of Autumnal objects to share with the class.
