Reception Newsletter 23rd March

Dear Parents and Carers,

We have had a lovely week thinking about the people who are special to us and all of the super things that they do! We have also really enjoyed having you in for parent evenings. It is always a pleasure to be able to share all of the fantastic work and celebrate the progress made by your children, so thank you to those that have been able to attend.

This week the children have drawn a picture of someone in their family who is special to them. We have practised writing some labels with some real or imaginary super skills, and then written a sentence explaining why our family members are so super! The children have come up with some wonderful and whacky ideas and shown great imagination this week.

In Maths this week we have been investigating data and asking our friends what their favourite super power is. The children have really enjoyed this activity, showing some very grown up questioning skills and filling in their block graphs independently. We have been encouraging lots of talk about the most and least popular powers on each of our graphs, and learning how to use the numbers on the axis instead of counting how many blocks were filled in.

We are still working on Phase 4, learning to read words of four or more sounds. We are really impressed with the children’s application of their phonics knowledge in their writing and reading. Keep up the reading practise at home!

Parent Involvement Morning

We will hold our Parent Involvement morning next week on Friday 31st March. Parents and carers are invited to join us in dressing up as a superhero (real or made up) along with your child. We will hold a morning of different superhero ‘challenges’, where you can work with your child and as part of a team to complete different, fun activities. We really hope you can join us for the morning, from 9am – 11:30am. Please ensure that you and your child have appropriate footwear for physical activity and a layer for the cold as we hope to spend some of the morning outside. Please also let us know in person if you can or cannot make it.

  • Tomorrow is Red Nose Day and children are invited to dress up in something funny, with a suggested donation of 50p to raise money for the cause.
  • Reading Challenge books will be changed on Fridays. Once again, we hope to be able to give all children a book, but apologise to those that miss out. We are in the process of covering and labelling more copies and inputting them on our library system. They will hopefully be ready to use soon. Thank you to the PTA for another donation so that we could buy extra copies.

Things to try at home:

  • Plan and make final arrangements for your superhero costumes.
  • Talk about why different people might celebrate Easter, and also those who do not.

Dates for the diary:

Friday 24th March – Red Nose Day (wear something funny/silly)

Thursday 30th March – Reception & Key Stage 1 Parent Easter Assembly, 9:15 –10:30am

Friday 31st March – Reception Parent Involvement, 9am – 11:30am (Superhero dress up)
