Reception Newsletter 22nd March 2018

Dear Parents,

Sports Relief

Tomorrow we are dressing in sport clothes for Sports Relief, with a suggested donation of 50p. Clothes can be PE kit or other sporty attire.

Parent Involvement

A quick reminder that Parent Involvement Day will now be the first day back after Easter, which is Tuesday 17th April 2018, 9am – 11:30am. It is a superhero dress up theme, so don’t forget your costumes. We will be checking in with you next week to see if you are able to attend.

Easter Assembly

You are invited to our EYFS and Key Stage 1 assembly, which takes place on Wednesday 28th March from 9:15am. We look forward to seeing many of you there and celebrating the end of term and beginning of Spring!

‘Wow’ moments

We will be sending out some more wow moments for the holiday period. We look forward to finding out what the children have been up to.

Literacy

This week the children have been taking part in lots of independent challenges, such as writing speech bubbles, letters, lists and stories. We will be continuing with these challenges through until the end of term. Well done to the children who have already completed all five on our list!

Maths

This week we have been collecting data on our favourite super powers and filling in a block graph. The children have been working hard to tell us what the graph shows, such as most and least popular. The children have also been learning the names of some 3D shapes and have had lots of discussion time about their defining properties.

Reading Challenge Books

Please make sure you fill in the sheet in the back of your child’s reading record to let us know when you shared the book and who it was that read it. Otherwise it will not be changed. Please ensure these books are in school on Wednesdays. This is our set day for changing Reading Challenge books; the library is not available to us at other times. If you unsure which book is a ‘Reading Challenge’ book, please check the front cover where it has a ‘Rec’ sticker, or check the title on the reading challenge sheet. Thank you.

Upcoming dates to remember:

23rd March – Sports Relief (sporty clothes, 50p donation)

28th March – Easter Assembly – 9:15am, Break up for Easter (3:15pm)

17th April – Return to school, Superhero Parent Involvement 9am – 11:30am

Things you could try at home:

  • Have a look on topmarks.co.uk and play some Maths games. We recommend 3-5years or 5-9years for more of a challenge.
  • Practise reading the tricky words sent home a few weeks ago.
  • Visit a new place!
  • Try keeping a small diary with your child. This could include drawing pictures, collecting things from your days out, writing short sentences and taking pictures.
  • Write some ‘wow’ moments about some things you have been impressed by recently.

Have a wonderful Easter Holiday!

Miss Mabin and Mrs Burkill
