Reception Newsletter 21st November 2019

21 November 2019Latest News Parent Year R

Dear Parents,

It has been another busy and chilly week and the children have worked really hard on their tasks. We have started to practise our Nativity songs and dances and the children are looking forward to performing them for you in the last week of term. Costume information for both classes will go out later today.

Phonics

This week we have introduced the Phase 3 sounds ch and th and the tricky words ‘she’ and ‘be’. Next week, we will be introducing the sounds ai, ng, ee and igh, as well as the tricky words ‘was’ and ‘you’.

Maths

This week in Maths we have been focusing on ‘1 less than’ and revisited the 5 or 10 frames and number lines to secure our understanding. Next week in Maths, we will be talking about daily routines and using language such as ‘before’ ‘after’ etc.

Literacy

This week in Literacy, we all had a go at writing a short sentence to recount our pyjama party. The children will be adding drawings to go with their sentence.

Next week in Literacy, we will be finding out where the North Pole is, and then finding out more about the arctic and the animals that live there. We will be writing a fact that we have found out.

Things to try at home this week

  • Enjoy the local area as the weather is getting chillier. Talk to your child about the changes that happen when autumn turns to winter.
  • Talk about your own routines with your child and what happens during your weekends. You could also mention any clubs that they attend, as well as the days of the week.
