Reception Newsletter 21st March 2019
Today the children will be bringing home a letter about Parent Involvement morning on Friday 5th April 2019. We would appreciate it if you could let us know if you or another family member will be attending. Thank you.
Parachute and Skipping Festival
On Tuesday 26th March we will be going to Axe Valley Academy to take part in a Parachute and Skipping festival, led by Axe Valley Academy pupils. We will be getting the coach from school at 9:05, so are asking children to come to school dressed in PE kit to ensure we are ready on time (bring school clothes in PE bag to change into for the woods). We also ask that they arrive quite promptly that day so we have plenty of time for toilet trips before we leave. We are expecting to finish at Axe Valley at 10:30am, so will be back in school by 11am. PE kits will be sent home tomorrow (Friday 22nd March).
This week we have finished adding more to our Supertato stories and added some cut and stick pictures or drawn our own illustrations. The children have worked very hard on their Supertato writing and are looking forward to telling the story in our Easter Assembly.
Next week in Literacy we will be writing about our day as a Superhero. The children will be collecting ideas on what a Superhero gets up to during the day, and writing some of these ideas down.
This week we have been focusing on estimation. Children have really enjoyed our estimation group work and have also enjoyed the estimating opportunities in the provision. We have had an estimation challenge, where children have been asked how many pomp oms are in a plastic bottle. We will count them and find out the answer tomorrow.
Next week in Maths we will be collecting information to create block graphs on our favourite super powers. We will be modelling to the children how to fill in a block graph, using our favourite pet as an example. The children will then complete a guided group task where they will be supported to create their own block graph.
We have focused on spelling the tricky words ‘we’ and ‘be’ this week and also learnt the tricky words ‘like’, ‘so’ and tomorrow ‘when’. We have continued to practise spotting digraphs within sentences, which the children are doing very well at. We will continue our digraph spotting again next week. We will also learn the tricky words ‘do’ and ‘have’ and practise spelling ‘my’ and ‘have’.
Things you could try at home this week:
- Practise writing some simple sentences based on the senses, e.g. “I can see… I can smell… I can taste…” You could play a senses game at home to explore these things first.
- Try some estimating together. How many socks are in the drawer? How many dishes need washing up? How many sweets in the bag?
