Reception Newsletter 20th October

20 October 2016Latest News Parent Year R

Dear Parents and Carers,

We are nearly at half term and are really pleased with how the children have settled in to school life. It has been wonderful to see the progress they are already making in lots of different areas and seeing them making new friends and learning to share both resources and space with others. We were delighted to see so many of you attend the Open Day; we hope you enjoyed seeing some of the activities on offer to your child.

This week in Phonics the children have been learning the sounds e, u, r, h and tomorrow, b.  Don’t forget, there is a helpful video on our website which shows how the sounds are pronounced. You can find it here:

In Maths this week the children have been exploring numbers and thinking about simple addition, adding 1 and looking at the special symbols used when we record number problems.  The children have really enjoyed using lots of different objects for adding and we are really impressed with their number recognition.

Library Books

Yesterday a parentmail was sent requesting books back. This is only reading books, which we have not yet given out in Reception so does not apply. Children do not need to return their library books until the Wednesday after half term.

Parent Involvement

Next half term we are holding a parent involvement morning for you to attend (or other family members if you cannot make it). This will take place on Thursday 1st December, from 9:00am – 11:00am. A sign up letter with more information will be sent out after the half term holiday.

Things to try at home over half term

  • Keep practising our phonics graphemes over the break to keep them in your child’s mind.
  • Enjoy exploring the outdoors and noticing the signs of Autumn with your child.

Have a fantastic break!
