Reception Newsletter 20th June 2019

Dear Parents,

The children have had a great week and were so excited to receive a letter from Captain Blackbeard! We have been doing a little both of Sports Day practice in between the rain showers and cannot wait to show you all our super skills tomorrow. Fingers crossed for sunshine and don’t forget to come in PE kits!

Mrs Burkill

Mrs Burkill has been absent from school this week. The children in her class have missed her but have really enjoyed meeting Mrs Enson who has been working in her place. We all wish Mrs Burkill well and hope she feels better soon. In the meantime, please don’t hesitate to approach Mrs Trott or Miss Mabin if you need to. Thanks for your support.

Swimming this week was cancelled for many year groups because of incorrect chlorine levels. The pool was back up and running this afternoon so we are hopeful that we will be able to continue as normal on Monday.

World of Country Life Parentmail Problems

Please complete and submit the Reception Trip Form (the second one) on Parentmail and not Reception Summer Trip. You will need to enter an email in the first emergency box and a phone number in the second. Any problems please contact the office. Apologies for the inconvenience this has caused.

This week we received an SOS message in a bottle from a pirate, Captain Blackbeard! We have been making up our own stories about how to save his ship and will be continuing with our hard work next week.

This week the children have been learning how to program Beebots. They have really enjoyed this and we will be using them again next week in our continuous provision to consolidate some of our learning.

Next week in Maths will be all about capacity. We will learn what capacity is and guessing which container can hold the most water. We will test out different containers, compare their capacity and put them in order from smallest to largest capacity.

In Phonics from now until the end of term, we will be selecting digraphs and tricky words that need practising the most and revisiting these with the children in a variety of ways. Reading lots at home will continue to support your child’s phonics progress.

Things you could try at home:

  • Try making some pirate accessories with your child. You could try a hat, a flag for the ship, a telescope or even a hook!
  • Talk to your child about sports day. What was their favourite race and why? How did their team do and how do they feel about this? This is a good time to discuss winning, losing, trying our best and taking part!
  • Practise writing the alphabet in lowercase. Watch how your child forms their letters and try to show them how to do it correctly. There is a very simple video of how we form our letters here (Letter formation).
