1 November 2018Latest News Parent Year R

Dear Parents,

We are happy to see the children back, after a restful half term break. We have hit the ground running this week, with lots of themed activities and a phonics check on each child. It was great to see so many of you at parent evenings and to share your child’s learning with you. Thank you once again for all of your continued support.

This week in Phonics we have been revisiting our Phase 2 sounds and tricky words learnt so far. We have also learnt the new tricky word ‘into’ and how to read ‘and’ quickly by sight.

Next week we will begin Phase 3 and will be learning the sounds ‘j’, ‘v’, ‘w’, ‘x’ and ‘z’. We will also be learning the tricky words ‘me’ and ‘you’.

This week in Literacy we have had a writing-based task to complete. The children were asked to draw some ingredients in their cauldron and then label with the sounds they could hear. They have all tried very hard and we are very impressed with their efforts!

Next week in Literacy we will be creating fireworks pictures and labelling them with firework noises and names of different fireworks.

Next week in Maths we will be focusing on developing children’s number recognition, ordering of numbers and counting accuracy within our provision. Our focused input will be counting back from 5 and 10.
