Reception Newsletter 19th October
We are nearly at half term and are really pleased with how the children have settled in to school life. It has been wonderful to see the progress they are already making in lots of different areas and to see new friendships developing. The children are learning to share both resources and space with others and as a result of this we have a very settled, safe and calm space.
This week in Phonics the children have been learning the sounds e, u, r, h and tomorrow, b. Don’t forget, there is a helpful video on our website which shows how the sounds are pronounced. You can find it here: http://www.seaton-primary.devon.sch.uk/reception/phonics-pronunciation-video/
This week we have carried out our first guided Literacy task and the children have had a great time imagining adventures around the world and beyond. Lots of us have tried to record some of the sounds we could hear and ‘label’ our pictures. We have all tried our very best!
After half term we will be sending you some information about reading and the reading challenge that takes place at school. Please keep your eye out for this in the first few weeks.
Next half term we are holding a parent involvement morning for you to attend (or other family members if you cannot make it). This will take place on Thursday 14th December, from 9:00am – 11:15am. A sign up letter with more information will be sent out after the half term holiday.
Things to try at home over half term
- The children really love learning phonics with ‘Alphablocks’ and ‘Geraldine the giraffe’ on youtube. Perhaps you could supervise some viewing of phase 2 sessions and act out some phonics teaching with your own puppets or soft toys.
- Enjoy exploring the outdoors and noticing the signs of Autumn with your child.
Have a fantastic break!
