Reception Newsletter 19th October 2018
We have had a fantastic first half term here in Reception. The children have settled in extremely well to school life and we are proud of their progress so far. Please keep up the reading at home over the holidays and also remember to relax as a family and enjoy spending time together. Thank you for all your support so far.
Meetings will be held on the Monday and Tuesday after half term. Your child should have brought home a slip with day and time. Please come and speak to us if it has been misplaced! Feel free to arrive a few minutes before your appointment time to look through your child’s learning journey book in class.
This week in Phonics we have been learning the final sounds of Phase 2: h, b, f, l, ss, ff and ll. As well as the tricky words ‘go’ and ‘the’. In our first week back we will revise all our Phase 2 sounds and tricky words so far. We will also learn to sight read ‘and’ and ‘into’.
After half term we will be sharing the story ‘Room on the Broom’ and will be making our own potions in class! We will draw and also attempt to write some labels for these potions and will be mixing up lots of fun ingredients.
Things to try at home during the holidays
• Enjoy the break together and remember to fill out any ‘Wow’ moments for us to share in class. The children love doing this and we appreciate evidence of learning from home!
• Go on a leaf hunt around the local area. We have all been excited to find bright coloured autumn leaves around school. Maybe you could create an autumn collage for your child to show in class?
Have a lovely break!
