Reception Newsletter 19th December 2019
What a busy week it has been! The children have all been very excited with four nativity performances this week, Christmas dinner/jumper day and a party to look forward to tomorrow. We would like to say a really big thank you to you all for bringing the children back in the evenings so that they were able to shine on stage. We know it was late for them but know that it meant a lot to the children after their many practices recently. We hope you all managed to get a ticket and enjoyed their performances. We were really proud of the children and could see how much it meant to them to be on stage in front of you.
Tricky Word Ladders
Today your child will bring home a sheet of tricky words and a ‘Tricky Word Ladder’ to practise with you. Please have a look in your child’s Reading Record or plastic book wallet to find these. There will be more information attached to the sheet.
This week we have introduced our final sounds ear, air, ure and er. We will continue to revise all of our Phase 3 sounds after Christmas and for the rest of the year. Please ensure you keep practicing and reading at home with your child.
This week we have had an RE focus, looking at why Christmas is important to Christians and why Jews celebrate Hanukkah. We compared the two celebrations to find out the similarities and differences between them.
Things to try at home this holiday
- Practise your child’s tricky word ladder.
- Draw a picture or write about one of your holiday days off.
- Share lots of books and time together as a family. Try a board game or something else that involves turn-taking.
Dates for the Diary

Have a wonderful winter break!
