Reception Newsletter 17th January 2019
We have had a busy week trying to squeeze in Literacy tasks, Maths tasks, a performance of Robin Hood and all of our other lessons too! The children have had a great time learning the story of Little Red Riding Hood, although some were sad to find out that she wasn’t featured in the Robin Hood show!
This week in Phonics we have gone back over some specific graphemes, including or, ar, sh, ch, ng, ear, air. We also learnt the tricky words ‘little’ and ‘said’. Next week we will continue to recap all previously learnt sounds and words and carry out Phonics checks with all of the children to identify gaps. After this assessment, we will begin to give out tricky word ladders for your child to practise at home.
This week the children have been writing about the story of Little Red Riding Hood. Some children attempted descriptive sentences and others wrote down a part of the story in their own words. The children have put a lot of effort into their writing this week and deserve a big well done.
Next week in Maths we have been partitioning numbers such as 8, so 8 = 3 + 5 or 3 + 5 = 8. The children used our part whole model once more to help with partitioning. They tried really hard with this task and some children found this quite tricky so any practise of splitting up quantities into two groups at home would be really beneficial.
