Reception Newsletter 16th November

16 November 2017Latest News Parent Year R

Dear Parents,

We have had a blast this week packing space cases ready to jet off to the moon. We will continue with this next week. We have also been excited to start our Nativity rehearsals. Your child should have brought home a costume list letter. If you do not have this, please let us know.

We have really worked hard exploring addition this week. The children have been fantastic at working in pairs and are really showing progress with their counting. We have loved their enthusiasm for our tasks.

This week we have started our Phase 3 phonics learning. So far, we have learnt the sounds ‘j’ and ‘w’. Tomorrow we will learn ‘v’. Next week, our graphemes are ‘x’, ‘y’, ‘z’, ‘zz’, ‘qu’ and ‘ch’. We will learn some more tricky words too. So far, we have learnt the following tricky words: I, to, the, no, go.

Library Books

Please ensure that your child returns their library book to school every week. We have had a number of children forgetting them for a few weeks now and it can be upsetting for them to see other children receiving new books. Thank you.

Things to try at home this week

  • Count some household objects or clothing. Talk about if there were 1 more or 1 less of these objects. Maybe show your child what the numbers look like and how they are written.
  • Please try and read with your child at least 3 times a week and record in their reading diary. We have such a busy timetable that we find it difficult to read individually with each child more than once a week. We notice huge differences between children who do and do not read at home regularly. Thank you for your support.

Have a great weekend!
