Reception Newsletter 15th November 2018
We have had another busy week and all of the children have been working hard. We have sorted the children into Nativity groups and have been practising group dances and songs in different classrooms. You will receive a letter stating which group your child is in and the costume you need to provide so please don’t buy anything yet!
This week we have learnt the sounds ‘y’ (the two sounds as in ‘yes’ and ‘happy’), ‘qu’, ‘ch’, ‘sh’ and tomorrow ‘th’ (the soft version as in ‘thumb’). We have also learnt the tricky words ‘he’ and ‘she’.
Next week we will be learning the sounds hard ‘th’ (as in ‘this’), ‘ng’, ‘ai’, ‘ee’ and ‘igh’. We will also be learning the tricky words ‘my’ and ‘was’.
Next week in Literacy we will be blasting off to space! We will read a story about our class bears taking a make-believe trip to space and creating lists/labels of what we would need on our own trip. Some children might attempt to write a sentence too!
Next week in Maths we will continue to focus on developing children’s number recognition, ordering of numbers and counting accuracy within our provision. We will also be using the language of more/less to build on our learning from this week.
Things to try at home
- Make some phonics cards together and play phonics splat or pairs.
- Organise a play date with some of your child’s friends. If you need help spotting their grown-ups, please do come and ask us.
