Reception Newsletter 15th June
Dear Parents and Carers,
We have such a busy end to the year and lots of updates coming up in our newsletters, so please keep an eye on what we send.
Seaton Wetlands Trip
On Tuesday we are spending the day learning at the local Wetlands. Children should wear non-school uniform, preferably old clothes that you don’t mind getting a little dirty. Please don’t forget their packed lunch (if you said you would provide your own), snacks, water bottle and a backpack to carry it all in. The weather forecast is looking promising so we expect all children to have sun cream applied for the day and a hat for protection.
On Friday it is our school sports day, which you have been invited to. Reception children will be completing their races in the morning and then we will go back to our classrooms after the picnic lunch. Water bottles, hats and sun cream are essential for this day as we will be outside a lot. Thank you.
Today we are sending home a questionnaire about your child’s awareness and use of technology. This will help to inform our end of year judgements, so we would be grateful if they could be filled in as soon as possible and handed back by Tuesday 20th June. Thanks in advance.
This week in Literacy the children discovered a message in a bottle from Captain Blackbeard! They were all very excited to write their own messages and have once again done a fantastic job at using their phonics and tricky words. We are pleased to see more children wanting to extend their sentences to make them more interesting. Next week we will be researching different sea creatures in preparation for writing some under the sea adventure stories.
This week in Maths we have been practising our subtraction by stealing pirate coins and making prisoners walk the plank! The children have loved these activities and have really impressed us with their ability to interpret number sentences and work out some of them in their head.
Things to try at home
- Watch some under the sea videos online or visit the library and share factual books about sea creatures.
- Enjoy the wonderful local area – it is meant to be a glorious weekend!
Have a lovely couple of days!
