Reception Newsletter 14th June 2018
Reception Newsletter 14.6.18
Dear Parents,
We have had yet another busy week and the children are showing some great maturity when it comes to working on focused tasks. We are very proud.
We have an incubator in the Reception corridor and the children have made sure to be very careful around our eggs. They are very excited about our chicks hatching. The due date is roughly 21 days from yesterday, so Wednesday 4th July. Sometimes they are a little late, so we will be keeping our fingers crossed.
Upcoming Trips
We have sent a separate parentmail about upcoming trips. Please make sure you read this to know what to provide for your child.
Maths
This week in Maths we have been working on our addition and subtraction skills. The children have really impressed us with their ability to do this largely on their own now. Practising reading and working out number sentences like 3 + 7 = ? and 10 – 5 = ? will secure your child’s understanding of them.
Literacy
This week we have continued to work on our non-fiction sea creature book. The children have worked hard and written some interesting facts for the class book, which will be put together tomorrow. We have also watched some extracts from Blue Planet 2, which the children really loved.
Next week we will be writing messages in a bottle, pretending we are pirates working on deck. This will be exciting preparation for our beach trip on Friday 22nd June.
Things you could try at home
- Talk to your child about recycling and how discarded plastic affects sea animals. We have recently seen the impact on Blue Planet 2 and the children were very sad to see animals eating it.
- Decide what you are going to wear to the beach. This could be sea, beach or pirate themed. Perhaps you could design your outfit on paper together and label it.
