Reception Newsletter 13th October
Dear Parents and Carers,
This week in Phonics the children have been learning the sounds g, o, c, k and tomorrow the digraph ck. For those of you who are interested in how the sounds are pronounced, please take a look at this (old but helpful!) video on our website. https://seatonprimary.org.uk/seaton/reception/phonics-pronunciation-video/
In Maths this week the children have been exploring repeating patterns of 2 or more objects/colours in a variety of contexts, such as paints, shapes, cubes, animals etc. The children have also enjoyed making repeating patterns with sounds and movement too. We encourage you to spot and create patterns with your child at home and when out and about.
Harvest Festival and Donations
Thank you for your generous donations to our ‘Open Hearts, Open Borders’ boxes. As promised, we are working towards our Harvest performance video and will let you know when it is uploaded onto our website.
Next Tuesday, 18th October, we are having a school Open Day where both current and prospective parents are invited to look around the school and see what each year group’s learning experiences are like. The times are 9:30am – 11:00am and 2:00pm – 3:00pm. We look forward to seeing some of you there.
Due to it being Open Day, Miss Mabin’s class will not swim on Tuesday. This lesson will be made up elsewhere.
Now that more children are having packed lunches, we are noticing a range in their contents and as members of a healthy school we would like to direct you the NHS advice ‘change 4 life’ for some examples of healthier lunch options.
We would also like to remind you that children who bring in squash or flavoured water will have their bottles refilled with water unless we receive a doctor’s note. Thank you for supporting us with this.
Things to try at home this week
- Go on a sound hunt – find as many things as you can beginning with… (a sound of your choice). Let your child choose a sound for you to hunt too.
- Use the ‘Children’s Zone’ on our website to play some maths games with your child.
Have a wonderful weekend!
Miss Mabin and Mrs Burkill
