Reception Newsletter 13th December 2018

13 December 2018Latest News Parent Year R

Dear Parents,

We are all getting very excited about Christmas now and performing out Nativity to you next week. We have our Dress Rehearsal to the school tomorrow and are eager to show everyone what we’ve been working on.

Christmas Party

On Friday 21st December, we are having a Reception Christmas party in our classes. Children may come to school in party clothes that day.

Parent Involvement

It was fantastic to see such a fantastic turn-out on our Parent Involvement morning this week. A special thank you to those of you who worked with another child as well as your own, it means a lot to the children to be working with a different adult, and they all enjoyed the day very much. We will be holding another Parent Involvement session in the Spring term so keep your eyes peeled in our Spring newsletters.

We have come to the end of our Phase 3 phonics and next week will be revising the sounds we have learnt so far.

Next week we will be learning about the Christian story of Christmas and Jesus’ birth. We will be learning the Nativity story but will not be writing as we are completing many Christmas crafts next week.

This week in Maths we focused on ordering numbers starting from 0. We introduced sequencing with missing numbers for some children, and use a number line to check what might come next. Next week we will be playing some number ordering games in class and continuing to recognise and write different numerals in continuous provision time.

Library Books

Please make sure you return your child’s library books to school on Mondays. We only visit on a Monday so this is the one opportunity to change it. We have many children who do not bring in their book and have outstanding loans from early October. If you are not sure what your child’s book is called, please let us know and we will try to find out.

Christmas Cards

We know that Christmas cards are a big tradition and appreciate that children like to give these out to their friends. Usually, it takes a large portion of the day to give out Christmas cards (as children are unable to read the names on them). We suggest only writing a class Christmas card, which we will celebrate at the front of the class. This saves you buying a lot of cards and saves the environment too!
