Reception Newsletter 10th January 2019
Welcome back to a chilly Spring Term! We hope you all had a wonderful break and a great start to the New Year. Thank you so much for the generous gifts and cards we received at the end of last term.
This half term our Literacy focus will be around Traditional Tales. We will be covering a number of familiar stories with the children and using different styles of writing. Next week our story will be Little Red Riding Hood. We will be writing descriptive sentences about one of the characters from the story.
This week in Phonics we have been recapping our Phase 2 and 3 graphemes and tricky words learnt so far. Next week we will be going back over some specific graphemes, including or, ar, sh, ch, ng, ear, air. We will also be learning the tricky words ‘little’ and ‘said’.
This week in Maths we have been learning about subtraction. We have been using a spinner to subtract one or two and been using objects and number lines to help our understanding. Some of us have also been recording number sentences.
Next week in Maths we will be partitioning numbers such as 8, so 8 = 3 + 5. We will be using our part whole model once more to help us with our partitioning and counting objects too.
